Manchester United transfer news RECAP Frenkie de Jong to Man Utd latest as Dean Henderson talks 'opened'
The wait continues as Manchester United pursue their first signing of the summer transfer window.
There has certainly been no shortage of names being linked as Erik ten Hag gets down to work on his summer rebuild, but as of yet, the new United boss has no new additions as pre-season edges closer.
United are in talks with Barcelona over the potential capture of Frenkie de Jong, although as things stand, the two clubs remain some way apart in their valuations of the midfielder.
United are willing to walk away from negotiations should they continue to be frustrated, and an alternative has reportedly already been identified, with claims that United have made an offer to sign Christian Eriksen, who is available as a free agent as his short-term deal at Brentford comes to an end.

REPORT: Manchester United 'reach final negotiations' with Frenkie de Jong
Manchester United have reportedly reached 'final negotiations' with Frenkie de Jong ahead of a proposed move to Old Trafford.
MEN Sportrevealed more than a month ago that De Jong was considered to be a target for United this summer. Since then, Barcelona have remained adamant that they would not be looking to sell the Dutch midfielder.
It is believed that Erik ten Hag, who worked with the 25-year-old at Ajax before his move to La Liga, could face some issues before being able to welcome his former player to his new club this summer. According to Sport, despite United reaching 'final negotiations', there is a difference in what price the two clubs value De Jong at.
Erik ten Hag to make decision on Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird
Erik ten Hag is set to cast his eye over Ethan Laird in the first weeks of pre-season at Manchester United before a decision is made on his future.
The 20-year-old right-back impressed during his emergence at youth level, but has since seen his progress halted by injury and varying levels of success out on loan. Laird hit the ground running when he joined Swansea on loan last summer but saw his playing time limited after his deal was terminated early and he joined Bournemouth in January instead.
The young right-back made 21 appearances during his time in South Wales but has only made six senior appearances this calendar year as Bournemouth were promoted back to the Premier League.

OPINION: Marcus Rashford is already proving his Manchester United critics wrong
Marcus Rashford went viral on social media after Manchester United drew 1-1 against Chelsea in April, but for all the wrong reasons. The forward's performance was lacklustre, uninspiring and his apparent lack of desire was particularly disheartening.
After the full-time whistle, Rashford swiftly made his way from the bench to share an embrace with Thomas Tuchel and that was the moment that caught supporters' attention. They joked that was the most Rashford had run all match and they weren't far from the truth. Rashford used to go viral for goals, but no longer. That should hurt his professional pride.
The forward seemed to lack commitment last season and that was the most disappointing aspect of his performances. United fans will forgive you for being out of form, but they won't forgive you for not doing the basics, especially when the chips are down.
Manchester United player James Garner outlines what he's proven at Nottingham Forest
Manchester United midfielder James Garner believes the success of his loan spell at Nottingham Forest this season has proven that he is physically ready to play regular first-team top tier football.
The England Under-21 international — who has ambitions of becoming a first-team regular at Old Trafford next term — helped Forest end their 23-year absence from the Premier League, providing the assist to help them beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the Championship play-off final.
Forest, unsurprisingly, want to re-sign the midfielder on loan for a third time this summer, believing that he would benefit from a full season of regular opportunities at Premier League level.
OPINION - Erik ten Hag knows Frenkie de Jong success would rely on another Manchester United signing
Erik ten Hag's arrival at Manchester United has prompted great excitement and also great expectations about the way in which he might be able to awaken a fallen giant.
Ajax had not won the league in five years before he guided them back to the top in 2019.
Five years after his arrival, he left the Dutch capital having delivered three Eredivisie titles - and might well have added another had the 2019/20 campaign not been curtailed.
Porto 'reject offer' for Manchester United-linked midfielder
Porto president Pinto de Costa has revealed that the club has turned down an offer from an unnamed outfit for Vitinha, who has been linked with Manchester United.
The 22-year-old, who lifted the Portugese title this year, reportedly has a £34m release clause. Arsenal are also said to be interested in the player, who scored four and assisted five this campaign.
De Costa said:
"There was a concrete offer, of considerable value, for Vitinha that we did not accept. And we referred them to the release clause, which is only way to take our player."
Chelsea 'join Manchester United' in race for Denzel Dumfries
Chelsea are reportedly pursuing Manchester United target Denzel Dumfries.
La Gazetta dello Sport (via the Metro) claims the Blues could launch a bid of £21m for the Inter Milan defender.
The two clubs are already discussing a possible return for ex-United striker Romelu Lukaku and this, it says, may help in securing right-back Dumfries.
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson wanted by Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer.
Henderson has been frustrated by a lack of playing time at Old Trafford and is keen to leave the club this summer, with Forest now leading the race for his signature.
The 25-year-old didn't feature in the Premier League at all for United last season and has made his intentions to find first-team football clear.
Erik ten Hag to make decision on United youngster Ethan Laird
United and Tottenham Hotspur interested in Christian Eriksen transfer
Manchester United are interested in signing Christian Eriksen on a free transfer as Erik ten Hag looks to reshape his midfield.
Eriksen is on United's radar after the departure of creative midfielders Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard this month left a void in the squad Ten Hag will inherit. The 30-year-old is available on a free transfer after his short-term deal with Brentford came to an end.
Eriksen has impressed on his return to the Premier League and while Brentford are keen to retain his services, competition from United is likely to prove problematic. The Danish international made his return to competitive football with the Bees in January, after suffering a cardiac arrest during last summer's European Championship, and his performances in the Premier League have caught the eye in the second half of this season.

Angel Gomes explains why he left United and details emotional exit
Former Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes has admitted that he struggled to control his emotions after leaving the club's Carrington training base for the final time in June 2020.
He told SPORTbible:
"As I was saying goodbye to the team, everything was fine. Obviously, I was a little emotional but as I was leaving the training ground, I ended up seeing James Garner and Teden Mengi — two teammates that I grew up playing with.
"It was horrible, to be honest. I teared up and my voice went. I got in my car and said goodbye to the security guards with tears streaming down my face. I just couldn't control myself."

Christian Eriksen has confirmed his Champions League football stance amid United talk
Christian Eriksen is the latest subject of Manchester United’s interests this summer, with reports suggesting the club have made an offer to the Denmark international.
Eriksen is available as a free agent, with the short-term contract he signed at Brentford due to expire at the end of the month. Having impressed since his return to action at the start of the year, the 30-year-old is unlikely to be short of offers this summer.
Since making his comeback after suffering a cardiac arrest at last summer’s European Championship, Eriksen helped Brentford to seven wins in the 11 games he appeared in. That helped the Bees safely secure another season of Premier League football, having been in a precarious position before his arrival.
United fans defend Harry Maguire with 'ridiculous' reaction to England booing
A number of Manchester United supporters have sprung to the defence of captain Harry Maguire after he was booed by England supporters after stepping off the bench in Tuesday evening's embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Hungary.
Just three days after facing Italy in a virtually empty Molineux, supporters were present for the Three Lions' latest UEFA nations League outing, as England suffered their biggest defeat on home soil since 1928. After trailing 1-0 at half-time, Gareth Southgate's side collapsed after half-time, conceding a further three goals in the space of just 19 second-half minutes.
It was a bafflingly poor performance, meaning Southgate and his players have plenty to work on ahead of the World Cup starting in Qatar in late-November. The England boss made nine changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Italy on Saturday, with Maguire among those to drop out.

OPINION: United cannot ignore De Jong and Van de Beek factors in Christian Eriksen pursuit
When Christian Eriksen finally left Tottenham for Inter Milan two-and-a-half years ago, it looked like Manchester United's long association with the player was finally at an end.
Yet, here we are again, with United contemplating a move for the Denmark international as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his midfield options in his first summer transfer window.
A lot has changed since Eriksen first left the Premier League two years ago. He won Serie A in his only full season at Inter, making 26 appearances in the league, most of which came in a deeper midfield role than he had occupied in the English top-flight.
OPINION: United have an obvious target date to complete key signings
It's that time of year when the admin on the Manchester United Twitter account must be tempted to turn off replies and have a day or two off.
Every tweet currently evokes demands to 'Announce De Jong' or a hail of abuse at the club's lack of transfer activity so far. As winning the transfer market becomes as important as winning the actual football it's a pretty common theme at this time of year for every club.
But United's travails of the previous nine years make them more susceptible than most to the panic of supporters who see targets slipping away. Fans of Liverpool and Manchester City have become accustomed to having faith in the deal makers at Anfield at the Etihad, but the same can't be said at Old Trafford.
Pogba reaches 'verbal agreement' on Juventus return
Outgoing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has reached a 'verbal agreement' ahead of returning to Italian giants Juventus, according to a report by the Guardian.
The midfielder will officially leave Old Trafford when his contract expires on June 30. He is poised to seal a return to Juventus, joining the club for a second time.
It is claimed that he will officially sign a contract in Turin at the start of next month.
Marcus Rashford expects two immediate United changes under Erik ten Hag
Marcus Rashford is expecting Manchester United to play with an 'obvious change of identity' under new manager Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman has been appointed the new United manager following Ralf Rangnick's reign as interim boss and will be looking to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford this summer. Ten Hag will meet his side for the first time when pre-season officially begins on June 27 before the club embarks on their pre-season tour the following week.
It will be the first time in three years that United have spent the off-season abroad, due to the covid-19 pandemic, and Rashford knows just how crucial a successful tour campaign can be.

Christian Eriksen breaks silence on United interest
Christian Eriksen has confirmed he will not rush a decision on his future this summer.
"No, and they know that too," Eriksen told reporters, as per Bold.dk.
"There are many criteria and many different things inside such a decision. Sometimes it goes fast in football, other times a little slower. You are not in control of it yourself. I have to make the best decision and not rush anything through.
"My phone stays on, but I also know my agent well enough to know that he only calls if there's something exciting."

James Garner issues update on his United future
James Garner says he is looking to impress Erik ten Hag in pre-season but insists he has not made a decision on his future.
Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, he said: “I’ve not spoken to Erik ten Hag yet. From the play-off final I’ve gone straight to being with England so I’ve had no rest and no break yet.
“It’s been football, football, football. I’ve not spoken to anyone at the club yet. It’s time for a rest now. I’m not too sure what the future holds.”
Pressed on what his preference would be, he said: “I’m not too sure, personally. I’ve not had much time to think in honesty.
“I’ve gone from the Championship play-off final to international football. I’ve not had a breather or time to think about what I want. I’d like to go on pre-season and impress.
“It’s down to me as a player to impress and make a mark. I know how good a style of football Ajax play so it’s exciting.”

Christian Eriksen 'interest does not rule' out Frenkie de Jong move
United would like to sign two midfielders this summer, and they might have found them.
The Daily Mail comment on United's interest in Christian Eriksen and say a move for the Denmark international would not end their hopes of signing Frenkie de Jong either.
De Jong delivers United blow
United's pursuit of Frenkie de Jong continues as they remain in talks with Barcelona over bringing the midfielder to Old Trafford.
De Jong was in action for the Netherlands last night as they grabbed a dramatic 3-2 win over Wales, and the 25-year-old was asked about the interest from United after the game...
You are always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player.
But I think I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment and feel fine there so there is no news.

According to The Athletic, the Reds have made an offer to sign the 30-year-old. Eriksen impressed on his return to action earlier this year, helping Brentford win seven of the 11 matches he appeared in as they finished 13th in their first season in the Premier League.
