Manchester United transfer news LIVE Frenkie de Jong latest as Erik ten Hag targets five signings
Manchester United will return for pre-season in just seven days.
Although it seems hardly any time has passed since United finished their dreadful campaign in fitting style with a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, those players who haven't been on international duty will report back to Carrington on June 27 to begin work under new manager Erik ten Hag.
It also means United have just a week left to get their first signing over the line in order for Ten Hag to have some of his own players to work with as he looks to implement his style of play on the squad as soon as possible.
A deal continues to be worked on for Frenkie de Jong and CEO Richard Arnold gave fans an update on the chase on Saturday: "Money is not a consideration on who we want," Arnold said in a video posted to Twitter by user @MufcWonItAll. "The manager wants him (De Jong) and they have actually done the work. He's a great player.
"Is it 100 or 200? I don't know. Get who you f***ing want. Do you want me buying the players? Does that not ring a bell?"

OPINION: Mitchell van der Gaag will solve biggest problem in United dressing room
Mitchell van der Gaag was pictured writing notes at Selhurst Park as Manchester United played Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. The Dutchman sat alongside Erik ten Hag, Steve McClaren, John Murtough and Richard Arnold as United lost 1-0.
The appointments of Van der Gaag and McClaren were yet to be announced, but their presence at Selhurst with Ten Hag was everything except official confirmation they had joined the club as assistant coaches. Although Van der Gaag was pictured sharing jokes with McClaren, the pair weren't laughing after full-time. It's likely the size of the challenge ahead dawned on them.
McClaren worked under Sir Alex Ferguson for two trophy-laden years between 1999 and 2001 and he'll need no time to ease back into life at Carrington. The reaction to McClaren's return was mixed but it seems like a pragmatic decision - his credentials are obvious.

"But for me it’s about focusing on doing my business here. I can keep getting linked with many clubs but who knows what the future holds?
"Of course I grew up in England, I’m a London boy. So maybe one day I’ll be back in the Premier League to make noise there. But for me right now it’s about focusing on Rome, on doing the best I can and hopefully winning these guys a trophy which they haven’t done in many years."

Six players Manchester United are tipped to sign this summer as fans await first addition
While Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have wasted no time in splashing the cash in this summer's transfer window so far, all has been calm at Old Trafford.
Manchester United, despite being in desperate need of new additions this summer, are yet to complete their first signing of the summer, meaning the frustrations of some supporters are beginning to mount. We are only a little over a week into the window, but the level activity at some of United's rivals has meant that the club is under increasing pressure to get their first summer recruit through the door.

Cristiano Ronaldo role in Erik ten Hag's Manchester United team questioned
Teddy Sheringham believes Erik ten Hag has a 'tough' dilemma regarding how much he starts Cristiano Ronaldo in his first season in charge at Manchester United.
Despite some concern that the striker may look to leave Old Trafford for a second time just a year after his return — due to United's failure to qualify for the Champions League — Ronaldo looks set to stay for another season after he revealed he is happy in Manchester and is looking forward to working with new boss Ten Hag. His decision has come as a massive relief as the Portuguese was the club's best outfielder by some distance last season, finishing as top scorer with 24 goals.
Despite his brilliance in front of goal, Sheringham believes Ten Hag will have a tightrope to walk in his handling of Ronaldo. Though the No.7 and fans alike will be demanding that he starts most matches, the United great believes the 37-year-old may struggle to hand such regular game time at his stage of his career.
United fans slam 'bitter' Louis van Gaal after Jurrien Timber transfer advice
A number of Manchester United supporters have criticised former manager Louis van Gaal for seemingly interfering with the club's hopes of signing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber this summer.
United had identified the highly rated 21-year-old as their top target to strengthen their defensive options this summer following a stellar 2021/22 campaign under United manager Erik ten Hag. Playing a formidable role in helping the Dutch giants clinch their latest Eredivisie title, Timber was outstanding, winning the club's Young Player of the Year award.
Capable of operating at both right-back and centre-back, the Netherlands international racked up 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals. He established himself as one of the most highly rated young defenders in Europe and United are keen on adding him to their ranks to bolster their defensive line.
